Realizing...

I've always believed in processes and I tended to criticize the ones who thought that the facts of life were instantaneous. Well, I decided to give it a little more thought and I found out that there is no opposite or antonym for process.

By definition, a process is a series of actions directed or designed to produce a particular result.

Well, it would be a blatant obviousness to say that everything is a process, because everything is in fact the result of a process.

In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.

Eleanor Roosevelt

I realized, then, that I was not bothered by people's desire for instantaneous results - simply because such results do not exist -, but by the fact that people expect shorter and shorter processes.

True love doesn't happen right away; it's an ever-growing process. It develops after you've gone through many ups and downs, when you've suffered together, cried together, laughed together.
Ricardo Montalban

Learning/teaching, educating/being educated, growing up, becoming a citizen are all processes. Becoming a respected professional, gaining someone's trust, pushing someone away are necessarily long ones.

It is a shame to see so many parents coming to the school demanding that their 9-year-old kid master the English language in two years, because besides learning English they have to learn Spanish, Mandarin, robotics and computer programming. Of course, not to mention the dance classes, swimming or football lessons.

I remember that my friends and I complained a lot about having to study Biology, Arts, Sociology or PE. None of us would pursue careers related to any of those subjects. Little did we know that it was the process that mattered. We were being coined learners.

There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.

Jiddu Krishnamurti

It is interesting to see that many adults have the same teenage thought when they go to college or do their MBA and Masters. Oh, c'mon teacher. This is so boring and difficult. Can we skip it. I won't use it in my job.

Our sense or urgency may be cultural. Yesterday, the Federal Government announced the Bolsa Atleta. In the program, athletes receive a certain amount of money to be able to train and improve their results because the Minister of Sport and the Olympic Committee hope Brazil will be in the top 10 countries in the Olympic Games 2016, in Rio. Oh, it gets better. There is the Bolsa Pódium, directed to top Brazilian athletes who have greater chances to get a medal in the Olympics.

However, the investment in sports in schools is ridiculous. Sometimes non-existent.

We expect a positive result from a crippled process.

We are surrounded by hundreds of deteriorated processes that are designed to give quicker, but unsustainable, results.

I do believe in processes, I feel great pleasure in going through them, sometimes more than reaching the result. I have to confess I get impatient sometimes, but I believe processes are worth it.

The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.

Carl Rogers

I feel disappointed when students (and their parents), colleagues, my daughters do not see the process in whatever is happening in their lives. Well, seeing it is also a process.

Just another love story

Cruwel and Saynt have been together for almost a decade now. Two kids, stable relationship. Of course they have their ups and downs, their cycles, but they always come out of it safely. They seem to think they are meant for each other despite the difficulties. Nothing exceptional. Recently, Cruwel was surfing the internet, you know, looking for fun stuff to take his mind off the daily troubles. He came across a post on 9gag . He decided to pose the question to Saynt. She came up with a long list of possibilities: artist, art teacher, biologist working deep into the forest to save endangered animals, bookshop owner and others he could not remember after a few seconds.  Bookshop owner. This seemed to be the definitive one. A bookshop with several storytelling time throughout the day and maybe with a café. Yes, this is it. Cruwel was more objective - as usual: I'd be either a sniper or a fighter pilot. The only detail was the jet, probably an F22 Raptor. ...
